After much searching for a name for the concept that reality somehow corresponds to words, images, thoughts, and beliefs (and the consequent behaviors that follow), and after naming this page with my own made up word for a while, I think, by the very nature of what it is, it would be more useful to use the term Law of Attraction here. Though it doesn’t describe exactly what I’m looking for, it certainly is the most overarching of the terms I’ve collected:
- or why we have a Department of Defense but not a Department of Peace.
“Recipality” is the temporary moniker I threw out as a marker until someone gives me some guidance. Originating from “recipe for reality” as in, the world we live in is what it is because of what we put into it. The cake is a cake because of the factors that go into it (ingredients, preparation, baking time and temperature). But I don’t like the “recipe” concept as it implies some sort of an active intention, and I think this takes place even when people make no active effort toward creating their reality.
I’m looking for something catchy, user friendly, not to academic or obscure. This word runs a thread through media studies, psychology, finance, medicine, philosophy and neuroscience, but I’m not looking for something complex or academic. I want this word so I can learn more about it, not so I can get a PhD in it, but so that it is accessible to just about anyone, so that it could be entered in a search engine and found by anyone else who might be looking for the same thing. But I don’t know what to call it. Maybe you do. Maybe it exists in another language. Maybe you read it in a fiction novel. If not, help me make something up. And tell me what you think. Here are some books related to this topic.

This made me think of some wonderful Leonard Cohen lyrics (from “Hallelujah”):
You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name,
And if I did, well really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light
in every word,
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy, or the broken, Hallelujah…
